THE CLEANERS

Part performance, part live painting, part carnival game

THE CLEANERS is an interactive, performance installation created by Shock Therapy Arts. A metaphorical work that examines human behaviour & climate destruction in an ultimate battle for survival.

A living room sits in mid-air, 7 metres above the ground. It is completely white. Two cleaners in white uniforms inspect the room, taking great pains to maintain the white rooms perfect whiteness. On the ground below sits a giant slingshot. Beside the slingshot, a large collection of mud- filled balloons. Let the games begin.

Fights, meltdowns, existential crisis; who knows what will unfold, how The Cleaners will rectify the situation, and what secrets they will uncover in the process.  THE CLEANERS is a durational performance installation by multi award winning contemporary performance makers, Shock Therapy Arts.

The Cleaners has been featured at SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS, BLEACH FESTIVAL, SYDNEY FESTIVAL and SPRINGTIME.

“The Cleaners was an absolute smashing success of the 2019 Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival. The joy, curiosity and wonder it drew from the audience at Burleigh Beach was truly remarkable. Shock Therapy are masters as creating interactive audience experiences that combine humour and intrigue beautifully. The Cleaners is absolutely this and I hope this work has as a long life… well as long as the two marvellous performers, Sam and Hayden can physically endure.”

- Louise Bezzina, Former Artistic Director of Bleach Festival
