LOCKED IN

Locked In is a multidisciplinary, physical performance exploring human connection, communication and our sensory and extrasensory experience of the physical world.

Locked In follows the experience of a young, dynamic man who is locked inside his paralysed body, and the evolutions in his relationship with his wife. Scenes shifts between the frustrating and tedious reality of his hospital bed and the vibrant, thrillingly heightened-reality of his internal, imagined world. It takes its inspiration from two true stories “Ghost Boy” by Martin Pistorius and “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” by Jean-Dominique Bauby, who both shared their experiences of living with Locked-In Syndrome in memoir. Locked In invites audiences to gather around a hospital bed to witness a man’s extraordinary life and love story, conveyed through dance-theatre, video installation and live performance.

The show premiered at Godsbannen in Denmark on February 2nd, 2017 before being performed at the Vinterlysfestivalen (Nordland Teater) in Mo I Rana, Norway, in Feb 2017.

Locked In was also presented at Queensland Theatre in the Dianne Cilento Studio in 2021.

“Locked-In” paints a strong, quiet and beautiful portrait of a trapped mind´s desperate struggle when its vessel is unresponsive. .…an extremely well performed, beautiful and innovative piece of theatre.” — Kristian Rødvand, Rana Blad (Norway)
